They said the 24-hour Venezuelan news station receives regular warnings from state telecom regulator Conatel against showing live footage of clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces, or broadcasting terms such as "dictatorship" and "repression." In contrast to past waves of unrest in Venezuela, the nation's three main private television stations have provided minimal live coverage of the latest anti-government demonstrations. They rarely show more than a few minutes of real-time images of protests. However, the private networks, including Globovision, do give...

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Jesse Chacon, Telecommunications Minister: "That means a price on each ADS (American Depository Share) which has been negotiated on the New York stock market of 17.85 US dollars each." 9. Officials shaking hands STORYLINE: Venezuela has signed a preliminary agreement to purchase Verizon Communications Incorporated's stake in the country's largest telecommunications company, the latest move by President Hugo Chavez toward nationalising strategic sectors of the economy. The government will pay 572 (m) million US dollars for Verizon's 28.5 percent stake in Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, or CANTV, the telecommunications ministry said. Chacun spoke to reporters after signing the memorandum of understanding with John Diercksen, New York-based Verizon's executive vice president for strategy, development and planning. "This company will allow the co-existence, in this new model of socialist production, of the private enterprise and state enterprise and of course the kind of enterprises we want to develop which are social production enterprises," Telecommunications minister Jesse Chacon said of Chavez's latest phase of nationalisation. While the sale price is below the 676 (m) million US dollars that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim offered for Verizon's stake last year, analysts said the deal still could turn out to be a reasonable one for the US company. The deal leaves the government with 35 percent control of CANTV, including the 6.5 percent stake it already owned. Remaining shareholders in the company include Spain's Telefonica, public stockholders, and employees and retirees. That gives Chavez operative control of a company that he accused last month of spying on him. CANTV, a former state company, was privatised in 1991. The company has 13-thousand employees, 3.25 (m) million fixed-line customers, 6.76 (m) million cellular customers and 592-thousand Internet subscribers. The deal with Verizon is the second in a series of takeovers announced by Chavez's leftist government in the electricity, telecommunications, natural gas and oil sectors in his bid to transform Venezuela into a socialist state. But Dayana, last year's ladies' champion, has been offered an unexpected helping hand in the past. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "It is different because one has to fight against the current which, at times, is very strong, at others, is not so strong. And we have been lucky enough to have the company of the "Toninas" - which are freshwater dolphins which help and protect us." SUPER CAPTION: Dayana Vasquez, 1996 Ladies' Champion in Orinoco crossing Strength is not the only thing that counts. Technique matters too and, for that, Manuel and his fellow competitors take to the open sea. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "We have to train how to start and finish, because we must begin running from the sand to the finish line which requires extra effort and training, as we are approaching the line already tired from the competition course." Spanish/Nat Venezuela's oil industry has received a major boost. U-S oil company Amoco and British Petroleum have paid (m) millions of dollars for a rich Venezuelan oil field. Venezuela has opened up bidding for oil deposits closed to foreigners since the country nationalized its industry 20 years ago and hopes to attract significant new investment. Amoco and British Petroleum paid 109 (m) million dollars for a rich oil field Wednesday, as bidding continued for oil deposits closed to foreigners since Venezuela nationalised its industry 20 years ago. Venezuela has now invited foreign companies back, hoping that new investment will help boost its oil production capacity from three (m) million barrels a day to five (m) million by the year 2005. Industry officials said they were pleased by the positive response from investors. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "This process in itself won't resolve the country's problems. However, it is a great signal to the international community that Venezuela has great investment possibilities. It's one more demonstration that the oil industry can't by itself get the country out of the crisis, but the industry can promote economic development and foreign investment that can activate the economy so as to renovate the economy and solve the country's problems." SUPER CAPTION: Luis Urdaneta, Vice-President, Petroleos de Venezuela -- P-D-V-S-A The auction marks a turning point in Venezuela's oil history. After the industry was nationalised in 1976, Venezuela did well, but not well enough to allow it to adequately explore its territory. Venezuela has the largest proven reserves outside the Middle East - 64 (b) billion barrels. The vice-president of Venezuela's state oil monopoly, Petroleos de Venezuela, hopes the auction will restore confidence among foreign investors. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "The greatest thing this signifies is the confidence that foreign investors and petroleum companies are placing on the country and the legal opening allowing private participation in the petroleum sector, which is the most important in this country." SUPER CAPTION: Luis Urdaneta, Vice-President, Petroleos de Venezuela -- P-D-V-S-A The cash bonus offered by the two companies broke a tie among four bidders who had agreed to pay 50 percent of their pre-tax profits for rights to explore the Guarapiche field in eastern Venezuela. Amoco and British Petroleum's third partner in the deal was U-S - based Maxus Energy Corp, which holds a 25 percent stake. Venezuela is auctioning rights to 10 oil fields strung across the nation. On Monday, a Mobil-led consortium paid a 104 (m) million dollars bonus on top of the other taxes for rights to La Ceiba field in western Venezuela. By Wednesday, the state oil company had auctioned access to six fields. Spanish/Nat Venezuela's government has declared a national state of alert to prevent the outbreak of an epidemic of dengue. The move comes in the midst of the country's rainy season which has already caused heavy floods and mudslides. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by a mosquito that spreads easily during rainy seasons. Health officials in Venezuela are concerned about the possible outbreak of the painful tropical disease known as dengue fever. Authorities have announced a national epidemic alert in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease. The move includes a fumigation campaign throughout the country, especially in the capital's shantytowns where the disease takes its heaviest toll. The national alert coincides with the country's rainy season- the perfect time for the mosquito-carried disease to spread. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) The problem is the rain, when the mosquito plague abounds, and the larvae reproduce. It's the same during the summer season. But if they fumigate two or three times a week they'll kill the mosquito little by little. SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop The dengue mosquito breeds in water pools especially in stagnant waters found in plastic containers and bottles. Dengue fever is extremely painful and can be deadly. It strikes quickly leaving its victims with a high fever and severe pain in the joints. In the most severe cases its victims suffer internal bleeding and death. The Ministry of Health has launched a national awareness campaign to get the message across. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) I call on people's individual responsibility to keep the indoor and outside areas of their houses clean to avoid the breed of the aedes aegiptis mosquito, that is bottles, cans and everything that can hold water. SUPER CAPTION: Eva Rodriguez, District Epidemics Director for the Ministry of Health Over four-thousand cases have been reported in Venezuela this year. Only two deaths have been reported this year compared to 13 deaths last year. Despite the decrease in the number of cases this year authorities are not taking risks and say the alert will remain throughout the rainy season which ends in November. China launched Venezuela's remote sensing satellite VRSS-2 into a preset orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gobi desert at 12:13 on Monday. The VRSS-2 was the third satellite jointly launched by China and Venezuela, and also the latter's second remote sensing satellite. It will be primarily used by Venezuela for land resources survey, environmental protection, disaster monitoring and management, crop yield estimation and city planning. The satellite was launched by a Chinese Long March-2D carrier rocket designed by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology. This was the 252nd flight mission for the Long March rocket family. The successful launch is attributable to full preparation of high standard. "The two hours before the launch were the busiest and most demanding period for launchpad support workers. There were over 100 of them working on dozens of posts. They needed to finish hundreds of tasks within limited time, such as status examination and transition and folding and retreating of devices, and each time, they completed their tasks very well," said Li Bing, chief engineer in charge of the launching site at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. In 2008, China launched Venezuela's first satellite -- the Venesat-1, or "Simon Bolivar", which carried communications facilities. In 2012, Venezuela's first remote sensing satellite, the VRSS-1, was launched into space from China. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20171009/8062920.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

SOUNDBITE (English) Orlando Ochoa, Economist: "In fact, we are coming back to the times where very powerful state companies dominate the Venezuelan economy, but this time under an ideological umbrella specified by President Chavez as new socialism. However, President Chavez has called people to read Marx and Lenin to understand what kind of socialism he has in mind." File - Recent 12. Various shots of utility personnel from Electricity of Caracas working STORYLINE: Financial markets reacted with concern on Tuesday after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez ordered the nationalisation of the country's largest telecommunications company, previously privatised electricity companies and four lucrative oil projects run by foreign companies. Venezuela's securities exchange suspended trading on Compania Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, or CANTV, for 48 hours starting Tuesday, after the company's shares fell 30.3 percent during the day's trading session. Shares for CANTV stood at 6,820 bolivars per share, down from 9,780 the previous day, as investors dumped the stock following President Hugo Chavez promise to nationalise the company. Chavez's radical moves to turn Venezuela into a socialist state could prompt capital flight while making the nation more prone to unreliable power and telecom services as they are taken over by an increasingly bulky government sector. Chavez's decision to nationalise the electricity sector and the nation's dominant telephone company brings more of the economy under state control amid doubts that the government is in a position to handle all it is taking on, especially if its oil revenues are squeezed. Chavez is eyeing a state role in the economy more accentuated than in the past. "We are coming back to the times where very powerful state companies dominate the Venezuelan economy, but this time under an ideological umbrella specified by President Chavez as new socialism," said Economist Orlando Ochoa. Chavez, who will be sworn Wednesday to a new six-year term, ordered the nationalisation on Monday. He also ordered the Central Bank to be stripped of its autonomy. American Depository Receipts of CANTV - the country's largest publicly traded company and the only Venezuelan listing on the New York Stock Exchange - lost nearly 35 percent of their value, trading around $12 US dollars Tuesday afternoon. The exchange halted trading on Monday after they plunged 14.2 percent following Chavez's announcement. Venezuela's electricity sector is largely state-run already and Chavez's call to re-nationalise companies that were privatised would affect several smaller regional providers. According to station employees, two government officials often stand watch over the antennas of TV news network Globovision, poised to take it off air if regulators object to coverage of anti-government protests. However, the private networks, including Globovision, do give broadly equal weight to opposition and government leaders and supporters in broadcasts - contrary to assertions by critics that they muzzle the opposition. Ruling Socialist Party officials scoff at the idea of any censorship, insisting the government is the victim of a U.S.-supported campaign by private local and international media to depict it as a repressive regime and thus justify a coup. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/2Hk2R3tbzM4/us-venezuela-politics-media-idUSKBN18M2DP http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Vote It using http://wochit.com
